Day 4: Dress Up Your Bar
The holidays are a time for family and friends, togetherness and entertaining. You never know who is going to stop over to say hello, sing a carol, bring some cookies, or spread some general holiday cheer, so you want to make sure you’re ready at all times. And by ready, I mean your bar is stocked and ready to go. Make sure you load up on your favorite beverages and holiday staples. For me, that means extra bourbon on the bar and eggnog in the fridge. Whatever your drink of choice, make sure you have plenty of it on hand and at the ready.
Which leads me to the point of this post: If you’re going to spend the time dressing up the rest of your house and making it festive, why shouldn’t your bar get a turn too?
Start by incorporating the decorations you already have going on into your bar. Sprinkle some pinecones around your well-stocked selections. Hang a few ornaments from unopened bottles. Tie some of that accent ribbon around spare decanters or shakers. If there is room, loop a garland around the front or back of the bar. Or perhaps some twinkling holiday lights.
While you’re stocking up on alcohol, be sure to pick up a few cocktail napkins in your holiday accent color. Or fun drinking straws. Or maybe even some new pretty tumblers or wineglasses. You don’t have to spend a lot of money. Most of these goodies are available at the Dollar Tree or in Target’s dollar bins.
Don’t drink alcohol? Build yourself a hot chocolate bar. Stock up on hot chocolate, marshmallows, candy canes, and whipped cream. Display all your scrumptious treats in mason jars tied with pretty ribbons so guests can see their options. Your guests will be excited at the thoughtful gesture, and you’ll be excited every morning when you have a whole bar full of yummy treats to choose from [see you later morning coffee]. I made this mini hot chocolate bar for our holiday party last weekend:
We were a bit short on counter space, but if you have the time and the countertops, here are a few more ideas via my Holiday Pinterest Board:
